Striving hard with passion and determination, an Indian medical student Manushi Chhillar won the coveted crown of Miss World 2017in the grand ceremony held on November 18, 2017. The beauty pageant for the aforementioned title was held at the Sanya City Arena, in China.
The 21-year-old girl, who hails from Haryana, competed against 108 contestants from various countries and bagged the sub-titles of ‘Miss World Beauty with a Purpose’ and ‘Miss World Head to Head Challenge’ as well.
Chillar’s journey in the glamour world began as she participated in the fbb Campus Princess 2017 where she was crowned one of the finalists. Furthermore, she won the auspicious title of The Femina Miss India 2017.
The CBSE topper of English in her 12th standard is a beauty with brains indeed. Manushi attended Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat and aspires to be a cardiac surgeon to serve her purpose as a doctor. Being brought up in Delhi, she pursued her initial schooling from St. Thomas. Besides performing well in academics, she has also maintained an excellent record in co-curricular activities. The young beauty is a trained classical dancer, has a passion for outdoor sports, and sketching, painting, singing are her hobbies.
About Manushi Chhillar Family
Manushi herself comes from a family of doctors. Her father, Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar, is a scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation, while her mother, Dr. Neelam Chhillar, is an associate professor and the department head of neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.
Education and Career
Along with being a medical student, Manushi has been associated with ‘Project Shakti’ campaign which she initiated on her own to make women and girls more aware of menstrual hygiene. She believes that it is an important issue regarding empowerment of women in India.
The winning stroke of the beauty queen was her touching reply in the question and answer round when she was asked which profession according to her deserves the highest salary. Chhillar’s answer was, “I think a mother deserves the highest respect and when you talk about salary it’s not always about cash, but I feel it’s the love and respect that you give to someone. My mother has always been the biggest inspiration in my life. All mothers sacrifice so much for their kids. So, I think it is the job of a mother that deserves the highest salary.”
Miss World 2017 Journey
Miss World 2016, Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico crowned Manushi with the honor, while Stephanie Hill of England and Andrea Meza of Mexico finished as runners-up. Chhillar brought the crown back to India after 17 years of the dry spell.Reita Faria was the first one who won the title back in 1966. Aishwarya Rai had bagged the title in 1994, followed by Diana Haydon in 1997, Yukta Mookhey in 1999 and Priyanka Chopra in 2000, the last for India.
By the virtue of her feminism and beauty, Manushi Chhillar has brought prestige and glory to her country. The nation is cheering her up on her victory. Kudos to the Miss World 2017!
